SARKAN
CompletedA tracked autonomous vehicle we built with team OSTEAM for the TEKNOFEST 2026 Unmanned Ground Vehicle Competition. We reached the finals in Mardin; I led the electronics team.
Project
OSTEAM is a team of students from different engineering departments at Ostim Technical University. For the TEKNOFEST 2026 Unmanned Ground Vehicle Competition we designed and built SARKAN, a tracked autonomous ground vehicle. The team reached the finals and competed in Mardin in September 2026.
My role: Electronics Team Lead
I led the electronics team and was responsible for the vehicle's electronic hardware architecture: power distribution, motor control, sensor integration and the emergency stop system. I also worked on the hardware-software integration of the autonomous driving and remote control systems.
Highlights
- ~250 kg tracked platform with a steel chassis that turns on the spot; 2 × 1 kW BLDC motors
- Separate 48 V and 12.8 V LiFePO₄ power lines, so motor driver noise doesn't reach the electronics
- Autonomy on a Jetson Orin NX (ROS 2, YOLOv8), real-time motor control on an STM32F407
- Fail-safe hardware emergency stop: 72 ms from button press to power cut
- 868 MHz LoRa backup emergency-stop link alongside the main 5 GHz link
